View of the ocean from the beach at the Westin Resort & Spa in Cancun. After the Hurricane in 2005, the beaches of Cancun have largely eroded. Westin may be far from the action (end of the hotel strip), but it has one of the best beaches remaining. We walked the strip and were amazed to see most other hotels, including 5-star hotels, with about 20 feet of beach frontage.

June 2010: Sands China resumes construction on the Sheraton, Shangri-La, Traders and St Regis branded hotels, which will add 6000 rooms, plus more retail, dining and entertainment facilities to the Cotai Strip in 2011. Also due to open in 2011, the Galaxy Cotai Resort will further add a 5-star 2000 plus-room luxury hotel, the 410-room Okura and the 254-suite Banyan Tree hotel. All this, plus Wynn announces plans to start construction on Cotai in 2011 with the aim to complete in 2014.
