Just about everyone who wants to visit Las Vegas is going to be concerned about the cost of their accommodation. This article will provide current facts about some of the best values for hotel, motel and other rooms in Las Vegas. Bear in mind, however, that a cheap hotel room may, in the long run, actually cost more than another hotel room for which you have to pay several dollars more. That is because many of the more elevated hotels include free bonus gifts with the price of a room. These may be coupons or discount cards that give you reduced rates on meals, entertainment, or other useful amenities. A prudent traveler will investigate whether any extra perks come with a room before settling on what seems to be a cheap Las Vegas hotel room.

How Inexpensive Are Cheap Las Vegas Hotel Rooms?

Article by Robert Scheer

More than 38 million people visit Las Vegas each and every year, and it is reasonable to predict that a high percentage of those visitors would be interested in cheap or budget priced rooms to stay in during their visit. But just because a motel or hotel room is advertised as the lowest price or the deepest discounted price, does that mean it is true? Not necessarily. First of all, even though you may be quoted a price as low as .95 per night, do not forget that this is exclusive of any taxes. The state of Nevada charges a 7.75% sales tax on all purchases, and there is a 9% tax on hotel rooms in Las Vegas. Over and above that, certain accommodations in the downtown area, those that are near by to the Fremont Street Experience add an extra 2% onto their room tax.

Not only are motel and hotel rooms generally more expensive on Friday and Saturday than they are from Sunday through Thursday, but do not forget to factor in the holidays. Because more people tend to visit Las Vegas on holidays, it is especially important to book your reservation, not only for rooms, but also for event tickets, well in advance if you will be there on New Year’s Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Valentine’s Day, Presidents’ Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Nevada Day (the fourth Friday in October), Halloween, Veterans’ Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas. Similarly, budget minded travelers who insist on a cheap hotel room in Las Vegas will want to make sure they avoid these days.

Don’t forget that, besides the cost of your hotel room, you will also be facing the cost of your transportation in and around the city. If you fly into Las Vegas, you can get from the airport via several different means. Of course you could take a taxi, but you will save money by taking an airport shuttle instead. Shuttle buses from McCarran Airport to downtown Las Vegas or the Strip generally cost less than per person, and they are running 24-hours a day, 7-days a week.

If you want to be more independent, you can rent an economy car for around to per day, provided it is a week day and not a weekend, and provided there is not a large convention or other special event happening in town that will increase demand, limit supply, and raise prices. If you want to take a taxi, you will find that the starting rate for a Las Vegas cab is .20, and then an extra .20 is added for every mile you are driven.

Parking may be free in most of the hotels in Las Vegas, but a lot of hotels offer valet parking, and you will be expected to tip the valet a minimum of for parking your car and bringing it to you.
