Enjoy adventure and luxury on Grand Canyon tours from Las Vegas
Article by Dipika Patel
If you are thinking about booking adventure holidays, you probably don’t mind a bit of dirt and sleeping outdoors, as long as you also get to visit some stunning sights. But there is no reason why you can’t combine that with a little luxury and there is no better way to do it than by enjoying Grand Canyon tours from Las Vegas.
Choosing such a USA adventure travel experience will allow you to see the two extremes of the country, with nights spent in its glitziest resorts sandwiching a visit to one of the world’s most beautiful natural attractions.
The Grand Canyon is on the must-visit list for most adventurous holidaymakers, as it has a deserved reputation for being among the most spectacular places you could ever hope to see and for being a great place to enjoy outdoor pursuits.
This vast canyon has been millions of years in the making, as the Colorado River carved a path through the already rugged Arizona landscape. It is now 277 miles long and up to 18 miles wide and a mile deep in places, but the figures can’t begin to explain the scale of it – you really have to see the Grand Canyon up close to understand what an impressive sight it is.
Once you reach the natural attraction, you will find there are a number of ways to see it. Perhaps the best is also the simplest – hiking. A walk along the South Rim Trail will take you to some of the best vantage points and if you time your expedition correctly, you will also be able to enjoy one of the magnificent sunrises or sunsets the area is famous for.
If you are spending a few days in the area, you could organise a hike through the Grand Canyon itself. There are lots of trails that run from the rim down to the river, but such a trek will take you more than a day and you will have to find a suitable place to set up camp overnight. It is also important to consult the National Park rangers before setting off, as they will be able to tell you if the weather is suitable for the walk or not.
Should you only be spending a day or two at the Arizona attraction, there are some other ways to get the most out of your visit. You could try the Grand Canyon Skywalk to experience the feeling of walking on a glass-bottomed observation platform some 4,000 ft above the Colorado River.
But if you are feeling a little more adventurous, you can book a flight over the Grand Canyon. There are a number of light aircraft operators who run tours, while booking a helicopter trip will see you flown through some of the most spectacular valleys.
Las Vegas is also an ideal base from which to explore the attractions of Monument Valley. This part of the Navajo Nation reservation is famous for its clusters of sandstone buttes and attracts thousands of tourists every year.
The size of the valley means it is best to use a car to see the sights – but you don’t have to stick to the roads. Book a Jeep tour and your guide will take you to the sites of the most unusual buttes and to a traditional Native American camp, where you can spend the night.
You will probably also want to make time to sample the delights of Las Vegas, rather than just using it as a base for seeing the area’s natural attractions.
Sin City is unlike any other place you will ever visit. Located in the middle of a desert, it began life as a stopover on a pioneer trail, but has now developed into the brashest city in the USA – one where the usual rules of taste and restraint have been almost entirely forgotten by the planners and developers.
The Las Vegas Strip is home to many of the world’s largest casino resorts and even if you decide against trying to win your fortune at the poker table or one of the multimillion-dollar jackpot slot machines, you are sure to find something to do. The casinos stage performances by some of the world’s biggest stars on an almost nightly basis and also house nightclubs and restaurants.
And it is worth spending an hour or two walking on The Strip – after all, where else would you be able to see a man-made volcano, the world’s largest big top and a hotel designed to look like an Egyptian Pyramid?

Fun Stuff To See In Las Vegas And A Cool Place To Stay When You Visit
Las Vegas is a fantastic, fun, slightly crazy, non-stop and in your face entertainment experience that you really must do at least once in your life! When I went I stayed in the Luxor which is a huge black pyramid shaped hotel with over 4000 rooms and a fun friendly atmosphere. It also has the largest man made light source pointing out of it’s roof up into the sky which can even be seen from space! I thoroughly recommend staying at the Luxor as it has great big comfortable rooms which are reasonably priced and loads of cool facilities including a very large casino in the centre of it. It has a quality restaurant and if you are in a hurry or on a budget you can dine in the buffet restaurant which has a huge choice of food and is available day and night.
You will never get bored in Las Vegas as the place is open for business 24 hours a day, in fact there are no clocks anywhere to be seen!
But what else is there to do and see apart from gambling? Well, one of the coolest things you can see when you are there is the grand water fountain show which is put on outside the Bellagio hotel (where Ocean’s Eleven was filmed) each evening for free. This is a truly amazing spectacle set to music with the stunning Bellagio hotel as a backdrop, this is something you won’t forget and would be a very romantic moment to share with your girl if you are going as a couple on holiday.
Another great thing to do is to take a ride on a big rollercoaster built on top of one of the hotels, but make sure you do this at night, as the view of all the wonderful Las Vegas lights as you go up, down and loop the loop is something that you will always remember.
One of the best things I did when I was there was take a helicopter ride to the Grand Canyon, flying over it was absolutely awesome, a definate ‘must do’ thing when you are there. Before the pilot took us to the Grand Canyon, he flew us over the Las Vegas strip and that to was pretty cool too.
If you have time, I would also recommend taking a walk up and down the whole Las Vegas strip, although this might take you most of the day as the strip is 7 or 8 miles long, however it is well worth it as you can walk in and out of the hotels and casinos and take in all there is to see for free, unless of course you stop to take a flutter which you will no doubt do! One of the hotel’s even has its own free mini zoo with lions, tigers and other animals inside it. Whilst you walk along the strip you may encounter some things you can only find in Las Vegas, when I walked up and down it I encountered three Elvis Presley’s! I also saw some guys on a street corner handing out leaflets for lap dancing clubs standing right next to a minister of the church collecting for his ministry…only in Las Vegas!

We stayed in a room in one of the two newer towers – it was large with Egyptian-theme furniture that was surprisingly tasteful. The bathroom was huge with separate tub and shower. With 4400 rooms and 100000 square feet of casino, Luxor is your …” – “Not impressed” from A TripAdvisor Member “I’m a travel agent and spent hours researching Las Vegas hotels before going there as I wanted to choose the best.
