Luxor holidays: Wonders of the Desert

Article by Emily

Egypt has risen from its position as a destination of historical interest to become a top destination for sun seeking holidaymakers. Visitors enjoying the popular watersports on the Red Sea coast can still take inland excursions to the Nile valley to see the sites that are so popular among travellers who book Luxor holidays. The main sites in Luxor date back to 2000BC and before, as do many of the artefacts that are housed in the ancient city?s well stocked museums. The main museums include the Luxor museum and also the mummification museum.

The mummification museum has all of the gory details of how to prepare a body for the afterlife. There are tools, ointments and cross sections of real mummies so visitors will leave with an in depth knowledge of how it all works. The Luxor museum is well stocked with exhibits that come from the nearby temples of Luxor and Karnak. Artefacts include various statues of Pharaohs, sacred animals and gods including the gilded head of Hathor, the cow goddess. The museum also has also has the mummies of Ahmes I and Ramses I, both of which were returned in the mid 2000?s.

Near to the museum, sightseers can wander through the magnificent and largely intact ruins of the Luxor temple. Before entering into a labyrinth of grand columns and statues visitors must walk down the avenue of Sphinxes. At the end of the avenue are two giant sitting statues that stood between two obelisks where there is now one. The other obelisk stands in Paris? place de la Concorde having been gifted to the people of France in the 19th century by Egypt?s rulers. The temple of Amun in Karnak is another highlight of Egypt holidays for visitors who have a passion for ancient history.

Unearthed in the 19th century the temple is at the centre of a vast complex that includes the tomb of Seti II and a couple of smaller temples surrounding the main complex. As guided parties head away from Luxor and into the desert towards Thebes the sites get even more interesting. They start with the colossi of Memnon, two statues of Amenhotep III, before continuing on to the Ramesseum, the Valley of the Kings and the spectacular Hatshepsut temple which was carved from the jagged cliff face behind.

Travellers who want an exciting beach break can head for the resorts around the northern Red Sea coast in Sinai. Sharm el Sheikh holidays are popular for anyone with a passion for both sunbathing and watersports, especially those who want to go diving around nearby coral reefs. Holidaymakers can also go on guided excursions into the desert or the Sinai Mountains where Moses was said to have received the Ten Commandments. St Catherine?s monastery, one of the world?s oldest Christian churches stands at the foot of Mount Sinai and is one of the more popular historic excursions.

The Luxor Hotel is Unique

Article by John R Hanna

The Luxor Hotel is located on the strip in Las Vegas. It isn’t brand new but it hasn’t been there very long. It sits at almost the end of the strip and is across the street from the Excalibur Hotel. The Luxor Hotel is unique in its shape. It is a pyramid with the very top having a bright light that goes up for a long way. It has an Egyptian theme and is beautiful inside and out.

There is even an Egyptian canal that runs through it. As people walk in from the front lobby they will see the casino floor straight ahead. After being checked in the people can go up to their hotel room. The rooms are spacious and decorated with the same Egyptian theme.

Rooms at the Luxor Hotel aren’t cheap but there are sometimes deals that can be had during midweek. The hotel also has restaurants and night clubs that people can spend their money on. The casino areas are well lit and they feel open allowing easy movement without feeling closed in.

Staying at the Luxor Hotel is always relaxed and comfortable. In the summer it can be over one hundred degrees outside and in the winter it can occasionally snow. If people want to leave the hotel and walk around, it is the most comfortable in the spring and the fall months.

The Luxor Hotel And Other Hot Spots

If people are staying at the Luxor Hotel but want to visit other casinos or see a show somewhere, there are two ways to accomplish this. Walking is pretty easy if people are going over to the MGM. Other hotels may be a little farther and if walking is too hard, taxis can get people to wherever they need to go to.

One tip to people visiting Las Vegas is that a lot of people walk. The sidewalks are wide but some people who get nervous in crowds may want to find another way around. The Luxor Hotel like many others also has a very reasonable buffet for each meal time.

Of course, one shouldn’t think that the food will be as good as some of the upscale restaurants, but the food is pretty good. The Luxor Hotel is a popular place so if people decide to go, get the reservations before hand. Sometimes there are conventions in town and when they are having them, rooms can be difficult to find.
